ABOUT US

KWA Engineering & Building Science Co., Inc. (KWA), is a privately held, Texas-based corporation.

KWA was established to advance the legacy of Jim D. Koontz, P.E. and to continue to serve his firm’s (Jim D. Koontz & Associates, Inc./JDKA) clientele. JDKA was founded in March 1976 and has operated in the Eastern NM and West TX areas for the past fifty (50) years. Mr. Koontz retired in December of 2022. Troy L. White, P.E., president of KWA, worked as an associate engineer for JDKA and was mentored by Mr. Koontz from October 2012 to December 2022.

KWA is currently headquartered in Lubbock, Texas, with key firm staff residing in and operating from Las Cruces, New Mexico, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

KWA is a full-service building envelope engineering and consulting firm practicing exclusively in the roofing, waterproofing, and exteriors industry in addition to providing forensic engineering assessments and laboratory services for evaluation of building construction materials. Engineers and consultants on staff routinely take a project from the initial inspection to the specifications and bid package, while providing quality assurance through final completion of the project.

KWA has provided planning, design, procurement and construction phase engineering and quality control services for projects in the public and private sectors to include manufacturing plants, hospitals, colleges, universities, public K-12 school districts, cities, counties, and various other state agencies. Our full-service materials testing laboratory also gives KWA the ability to test and verify as-built conditions in-house, which uniquely positions us above other design firms.

In addition to continuously managing a large workload of providing design and construction phase services for new commercial roof assemblies and re-roofing projects, our engineers and consultants continue to hone their skill sets through active participation in respective professional organization, continuing education classes and seminars, company workshops, and study of professional technical subscriptions, various roofing and construction magazines, and other technical publications.
